How to know if your curls need protein or moisture?

If you've been on our email list for awhile, we are sure you've seen a good number of emails explaining the difference between protein and moisture. BUT - we are here to tell you 3 ways to know which your curls are calling for. So, keep reading.

1. Stretch Test

Grab a curl, stretch it and release.
If you stretch your hair and it goes right back, you likely have balanced hair (go you!).

If you stretch your hair and it feels brittle, dry or like it’s breaking off, you likely need moisture.

If you stretch your hair and it doesn’t bounce back, but rather feels limp or lifeless, you likely need protein.

2. Generalization Test

Analyze your hair. If it's flat (hair or roots), oily (hair or roots), damaged, struggling to hold shape or limp, you need protein!

If it's frizzy, dull or dry, you need moisture.

3. Guess and Check

Simply trial and error with what levels of protein / moisture your hair actually needs.
Note: Success with this often comes with time and experience!
