What are irish curls and why is everyone talking about them?!

Ah, yes! The term "Irish curls" definitely sounds intriguing—like something straight out of an old-world pub menu or maybe a quirky fashion trend. But, you're in for a treat because we're actually talking about a particular type of hair texture!

What Are Irish Curls, Anyway?

Let’s get one thing straight: When someone says they have “Irish curls” it doesn’t actually mean they are Irish. It is a new term started on TikTok where the bottom half of your hair or the hair next to your ears is curly, but more straight on top. Yes, you can be born with a curl pattern like that butttt this is usually a sign of heat damaged curls. The top can look like the bottom if you start taking care of it!

Why the Buzz?

So, why is everyone suddenly obsessed with Irish curls? Well, it seems like the world has finally realized that curls can be just as versatile as straight hair, if not more so. Social media is overflowing with stunning images of women (and men!) embracing their natural waves. The curl revolution is real, and Irish curls are leading the charge.

How to Rock Irish Curls

Now that you’re ready to dive head-first into taking care of your curls, here are some tips to help your hair reach it’s full potential:

  • Assess the Damage

Before diving into a repair routine, take a close look at your curls. Are they dry, frizzy, or lacking definition? Understanding the type of damage will help you choose the right products and methods.

  • Do deep treatments regularly

Curly hair is often very dry, especially after going through some damage. Giving it some TLC weekly will go a long way! Utilizing deep conditioning masks, protein treatments, and bond builders will be game changers for your hair. (check out our Product Vault for all the products we have available for you to try out).

  • Avoid Heat Styling

Give your curls a break from heat styling tools. Air drying is the best option for damaged curls. If you must use heat, make sure to use a heat protectant and set the tools to a lower temperature. (Don’t worry, we have heat protectants available too).

  • Stay Consistent

Consistency is key! Stick to a routine that focuses on hydration, nourishment, and gentle handling. It may take time, but your curls will thank you for the love.

So, there you have it! Irish curls are not a hairstyle or something only Irish people have; but a sign of your hair’s potential. Need help on your curly hair journey? Subscribe to Curls Monthly here!
